Metz, France
Metz is the capital of the cultural and historical region of Lorraine in northeastern France. Now part of the larger Grand-Est region, Metz is in the heart of Europe. It is located within 400 miles of over 200 million people and six European Union capitals. Bordering Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, and Switzerland, Grand-Est is the only region in France to border more than two countries.
Metz has been for centuries, as it is today, a central hub of Europe, reflecting the rich history of the many cultures which ruled the region over the centuries. At the confluence of the Moselle and Seille rivers, and with its many public gardens it's no wonder that Metz is nicknamed the Green City. With its rich heritage and historic core, the city is currently on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List. Those lucky enough to visit will discover a city that honors its past while embracing the future. From the spectacular, Gothic, Metz Cathedral (St. Etienne de Metz) which glitters with the largest expanse of stained glass in the world, to the visionary Centre Pompidou-Metz, a museum of modern and contemporary art that hosts the largest temporary exhibition space outside of Paris, Metz is unforgettable.
Since the early 90’s, Metz has become a European center for high technology, with high tech companies, universities and research laboratories which sit alongside Georgia Tech-Europe in the renowned Metz Technopole. Located just 90 minutes from Paris via the high-speed TGV train, more and more people are discovering the allure of this historic city.
