IES Abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina & Santiago, Chile
McIntire students:
After completing the online Education Abroad Workshop on this website,
apply to the "UVA Commerce: Semester Abroad" program, not to the specific program.
Program Overview
The IES Abroad Emerging Economies program begins with orientation in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where the first half of the program is held, followed by a week-long course-related trip to Peru, and the second half of the program takes place in Santiago, Chile. Learn about the accelerated pace of globalization and economic growth in these markets while experiencing two very different cultures, complete with their own distinct institutions, laws, and business practices. Both serve as models for the pitfalls and opportunities surrounding economies in transition within the global marketplace.
Application Process
Students must attend the McIntire information session and complete the online Education Abroad Workshop on this site. Students should then complete the online "UVA Commerce: Semester Abroad" application on this site.
Applications are due by noon on the deadline date. Once admission is approved, students will be required to complete a program-specific application packet and attend several orientation sessions later in the semester.
Additional Information
This program is a direct enroll program, with tuition being paid to IES. Students participating in this program will be responsible for the UVA Study Abroad Administrative Fee during the semester abroad. Detailed information about this fee can be found in the online Education Abroad Workshop.
When studying abroad all UVA students are required to have both basic international health coverage and emergency assistance coverage through the UVA-sponsored plan with CISI. See the Insurance page on this website for more information about requirements. Additional information and details about the IES Abroad Argentina & Chile program can be found on their website. More information about curriculum, housing, and academic calendar is available to McIntire students in the MyMcIntire Portal Semester Abroad Guide.
