  • Spanish Prerequisites: Completed at least SPAN 2020-Advanced Intermediate Spanish or the equivalent.

In addition to their Spanish course/s, students can select from the following University of Virginia direct credit courses:

Pre-Health Course Offering

BIOL 2200-Introduction to Biology with Laboratory: Organismal & Evolutionary Biology

CHEM 2420-Organic Chemistry II

CHEM 2321-Organic Chemistry II Lab for non-Chemistry Majors

STAT 2020-Statistics for Biologists

BIOL 2200-Introduction to Biology with Laboratory: Organismal & Evolutionary Biology

BIOL 2200 is one of two semester courses that together provide an intensive introduction to biology for prospective Biology majors and pre-health (med, vet, dental) students. This course focuses on evolution, physiology and development. Lecture topics and concepts are reinforced and extended during once-weekly laboratory/small group discussions. The Introductory courses are not sequenced and may be taken in either order.

CHEM 2420-Organic Chemistry II

Survey of the principle classes of organic and bioorganic compounds in relation to their structure, identification, synthesis, natural occurrence, reactivity, and mechanisms of reactions. Prerequisite: CHEM 2410-Organic Chemistry I-or 1820-Principals of Organic Chemistry (Accelerated).

CHEM 2321-Organic Chemistry II Lab for non-Chemistry Majors

Focuses on the development of skills in methods of preparation, purification and identification of organic compounds. One hour lab lecture and four hour laboratory meets biweekly. This course is designed for students who are pre-health students but NOT chemistry majors/minors. Prerequisite: CHEM 2311-Organic Chem Lab for Non-Chemistry majors or 2411-Organic Chemistry I Lab. CHEM 2420 must be taken concurrently or prior to CHEM 2321

STAT 2020-Statistics for Biologists

This course includes a basic treatment of probability, and covers inference for one and two populations, including both hypothesis testing and confidence intervals. Analysis of variance and linear regression are also covered. Applications are drawn from biology and medicine.
